Activities for the whole family

The vast and changing landscape of the French Alps offers the most fantastic scenery, clean air, stunning mountains and crystal clear lakes. You can choose between the traditional holiday activities that the French Alps can offer or the more challenging activities that will definitely get your adrenaline pumping! The Alps are home to numerous alpine rivers and lakes that provide an endless playground for water enthusiasts.

Activities are aimed at both adults and children, although some of the more adventurous activities may require a minimum age.

Of course, courses and advice are provided to make your experience as good and safe as possible.

Below is a list of some activities offered but there are too many to list them all! Do not hesitate to ask your Sowell advisors or reception teams for more details.

• Paragliding : see the Alps from above… an exhilarating experience.
• Hydrospeed : Using a float, you ride the waves on a fin-led course.
• Caving : explore to discover underground rivers, caverns and rock formations. All equipment is provided.
• Kids Clubs:  Ages vary, with some aimed at young children and others at teenagers. Activities may include an introduction to rock climbing and outdoor games. Each club is required to follow strict safety regulations and employs qualified staff, so your children are in safe hands.
• Adventure courses / Treetop adventure courses : they are located in the tree canopy and both adults and children can participate. Attached to a safety harness and suspended 15 m from the ground, you move between the trees along a steel cable or perhaps balance on tree trunks, it’s a great pleasure for anyone. family !
• Hiking : Do you want to discover the mountains from a great height? The ski lifts allow you to get there without exhausting yourself on the way up. There are plenty of walking trails with signposts to help you stay on track. Guides are also available at many resorts.
• Mountain biking : Using the ski lifts (if you wish), you can cycle at altitude and then return to the resort off the beaten track. Perfect for experienced and extreme mountain bikers, but there are also less intense routes for novices!
• Mountaineering : Climb and rappel down the rock face safely using ropes and harnesses. The normal age to start is 8 years old.
• Via Ferrata : Walking and climbing are involved in this activity with the challenge of moving around a course using fixed ropes, ladders, etc. with helmets and harnesses used for safety.
• Summer Skiing : A few resorts in the French Alps offer summer skiing on their high altitude glaciers in July and August. Les Deux Alpes and Tignes are both open to summer skiers.
